Mid-January 2018 Business Report - Trying to grow, +1 New B2B client and working on a project for a current client

Mid-January 2018 Business Report

January is normally a difficult month for B2B work because clients are coming back from the Christmas holidays and the last thing they want to see in their inboxes is annoying sales emails from businesses that are trying to grow. However, you still need to send cold emails because you need clients and I know my business needs a new pipeline. On the 1 January, the only client I had was an old client that I have had for 5 plus years. I am grateful for their business - but I was really stressed out at the beginning of the month, because I was wondering how I was going to fill out my client base for the month.

I am glad to report in just 14 days, I have the following results to report. Please note I have a B2B marketing company and I have experience selling consumer products. I hope to build a successful B2B business and a successful B2C one. Unless I say it, all business refers to my B2B work. If I talk about my B2C business, I will always make sure to specify this.

New Business

  • 1 New B2B client - this client has ordered work and put a deposit down which does inspire trust and it encourages me to work harder for them. The client pays in Australian Dollars, which is another exciting thing as I have never worked with a client from that part of the world. I found this client through cold enquiries.
  • 1 New project from an old client - my old client for many years ordered a project for this month. I am halfway through this work in order to send to the client. I hope I make them happy.
Prospecting Results

I've been trying really hard to find projects but one thing I am learning is I am competing with many agencies and incredible consultants who all want a slice of B2B marketing budgets. Here are my results -

  • 1 response out of 25+ cold enquiries - Excluding that client win I mentioned above, I received a response from a digital agency in the US when I pitched for an opportunity for marketing writing. I am going to send a follow-up tomorrow but not sure if they will bite. Fingers crossed.
  • 1 response from a SEO/PPC agency - After another cold enquiry, I received a response from a PPC agency asking for more information about whether I can do the digital work they need. Not sure about this - but I am willing to prove myself.
Thoughts

To be fair, I think I could be doing more in terms of prospecting. I have some leads that I need to follow up on and I think I should be sending more cold enquiries per day. I have some good freelancers who I work with so I think I should use them as my inspiration because the more projects I can find, the more I can send to them to do.

I'll do an income report at the end of the month to show you my progress. So far, so good but I can still do more. I have plans to relaunch my B2C business properly later this month, but I will try and give an update later this week.

Monday Business Update - Too many ideas leads to no work

Monday Business Update I think one of the biggest problems that many business people have including me is suffering from too many ideas and lack of execution to make things happen.  Today, I have been working, following up with leads, and sending finished work to clients. However, all I can think about is new business ideas of things which I want to do. I think this is part of the problem that I have. I have too many ideas, I lack focus and my ability to just focus on more than 3 ideas is weak at best. How I am going to change Focus on less business ideas but deliver on execution Only work on 1-3 business ideas at a time  Be extremely focused to deliver results  Not get scatter brained I sent an invoice to one client today and I hope this client can pay as soon as possible, as this would generate cashflow for my business.  I also send one cold enquiry to a fashion wholesaler - I am hopeful they will respond but I know realistically I need ...

Wednesday Business Update

My stress levels have gone up in the past two days - doing business is hard work, don't let Instagram tell you any different - One client wants to pause upcoming work Another potential client is interested in working with me  Another client has totally unrealistic demands for a particular project so I have to deal with his expectations I am learning quickly that you need to have boundaries with clients. Of course it is wonderful to have tonnes of clients for a B2B business but not at the expense of my health and my view of what good work is.  On the consumer side, things are churning along as well.  I think I could have made more of an effort in the beginning of the week to look for more projects. I am prospecting every day but not enough.
